Aloha Flea Market

Set the GPS for Aloha Stadium and headed to the flea market...
It was a hot day so we set out on the circle route to see what they had..
we were looking for some Hawaiian print basketball shorts but ended up buying some smoked ahi and swordfish. After 5 miles yesterday, browsing the craft faire and circling the Aloha stadium parking lot we were ready for a nap... but noooo.... we were off to the Filipino festival at Kapiolani Park to check out the festivities. Kapiolani Park is at the east end of Waikiki so we parked near the zoo... which was wayyyy tooo farrr to walk!!! Got to the festival and were really disappointed, a handful of food booths, booths for regional Filipino clubs, some healthfaire stuff and thats it. Got a BBQ pork / lumpia plate and headed back to the hotel for lunch and a nap.

Not the flea market!!

After breakfast and farmer's market Ford dropped us off so he could pick up Ailee after paddling practice. Off to the Annual Moanalua High School Craft Faire to check out the local handicrafts. Located on a hill above Pearl City the high school had quite a view of downtown Honolulu... We browsed the many booths with their Hawaiian quilts, t-shirts, jewelery and trinkets. Found these neat table covers for the 6' fold up tables, they're kinda like fitted sheets that go on top of table... why didn't I think of that??

Saturday already!!!

Ford had to drop off Ailee for her paddling practice so he came to pick us up for breakfast. To Rainbow Drive In for breakfast today...Corned Beef with Rice and Gravy for me, Loco Moco in a cup for Di. Ford got the Sweet Bread French Toast that I shoulda ordered...

Its Saturday so we went to check out the Farmer's Market at Kapiolani

Community College just behind Diamond Head. If you arrive late in the week be sure to check out the KCC Farmers Mkt for your fresh fruit fix for the whole week. Ailee's roomates' family has a booth here so they treated us to some refreshing homemade Mango Tea...Ford grabbed some delicious fried taro mochi – excellent!! (even tho it's made from taro) They had alot of tropical flower vendors here and it looked like they were doing a booming business with everyone buying flowers for Mother's Day. Our next taste bud treat was the Philipino pastry called sprinkled with powdered sugar and served with a little bit of lilikoi butter.... Hot out of the fryer....couldn't help but get the powdered sugar all over our faces!!! ...ummmm.!!!!

Burgers at Teddys

At the strong recommendation of Jimmy Takahashi, lunch today was at Teddy's Burgers on Kapahulu... this time we drove and parked across the street in Kapiolani park. Di ordered the Teri Burger (Jimmy Tak's fav) I got a cheeseburger with garlic fries. Good thing we had already walked 2.5 miles because these burgers were so good (but obviously not that good for you) We're on vacation, okay???

5 miles today

Stopped off at Longs last night... Nothing like the Long's back home, they had all kinds of stuff more like a small grocery store. Finally found Diane's Hawaiian Smoke Seasoning we had been looking for the last two days. Picked up some more omiyage stuff and headed back to the hotel.

Still seem to be on California time, up at 6am decided to walk to Rainbow drive in for breakfast. I had the car keys in my hand and started for the garage when Diane said she thought we were going to walk... okay I said.....one mile later we were having Eggs, rice and portugese sausage... mmmm delish...

After breakfast we walked back via Kapahulu and Kalakaua. Probably another mile and half.

Dinner with the Takahashi's

Tonight we're having dinner at the Takahashi's. Gordon, Majorie, Jimmy, Jamie, and Joy Joy. Their son Jimmy played on our son Jimmy's Barons team two years ago when the family moved to California to help care for Gordon's mom. After a year they moved back to Mililani and we've managed to keep in touch.
We promised to bring dessert so after checking Yelp for bakery recommendations we settled on Liliha Bakery's famous cocoa puffs. (cream puffs with chocolate filling with chantilly frosting) Gordon had the day off and fixed us shrimp poke, miso salmon and tri tip. Dinner was delicious and it was great visiting with Gordon and his family. The cocoa puffs were the perfect finish, I only wish I had brought about a dozen more :) Another regret, I forgot to take any pics:((

What next??

After dropping off Ford we decided to head out the Waikele to the outlets to pick up some more omiyage.By this time it was getting warm and nearing lunchtime so we made our stop at the outlets short...
Waikele is just on the other side of Pearl City and Aieia so we headed over to Waimalo to eat at Shiro's Saimin... it was just too hot to eat saimin so we detoured over to Aloha sushi and pickup a combo sushi box and a poke box. Leonard's Jr. was right next door so I grabbed a couple of Malasada's while we were waiting for our sushi order. Then it was back to the hotel for lunch on th lanai...
